At Thompsons Road Physiotherapy we believe that exercise is an important part of recovery. We run 30 group exercise classes per week through our exercise studio next door, where participants enjoy evidence-based clinical exercise therapy. Exercises are performed on a range of pilates equipment including reformers, stability chair and trapeze table, as well as making use of other equipment such as Bosu ball, wobble boards, Swiss Balls, Therabands and weights, exercise bike, and more!
All classes are supervised by a qualified physiotherapist from our team, and there is a maximum of four participants per class, so you receive the attention and supervision you need to exercise safely and effectively.
Every participant has an individual program to address their specific exercise needs. This is developed during a 1:1 extended consultation with your physiotherapist, keeping in mind your personal problem list and health goals.
Exercise Rehabilitation is ideal for a range of conditions, such as:
- Lower back pain
- Core muscle weakness
- Arthritis
- Post-operative joints, tendons and ligaments
- Chronic pain
- Poor posture
- Impaired balance
- Pelvic and hip pain
- Knee and ankle injuries
- Post-pregnancy recovery
- Joint replacement
- Shoulder pain
- Returning to exercise
- Parkinson’s Disease
We recommend a programme of 10-12 weeks in order to gain strength and see functional benefits. Following this you may choose to continue in your class, move across to our exercise circuit class, or try out wellbeing exercise classes. We can also help you progress to a local gym or community exercise group appropriate for you. Many of our participants also have a home exercise program to complete to optimise their outcomes.
We recommend wearing activewear such as t-shirt and shorts/leggings, and non-slip socks, which you can purchase from reception.
Exercise rehabilitation classes are rebateable for eligible private health insurance policies with extras, as well as for TAC and Workcover claims. Gap fees apply. To find out if you are eligible for rebates, speak to your insurance fund directly about exercise rehabilitation with a physiotherapist.
